Barry Schindler, SE
Principal
Having spent his entire 40+ year career with JAMA, Barry Schindler has designed thousands of projects across all sectors including several high-rise buildings and some of the firm’s most recognizable structures such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Staples Center (now Crypto.com Arena) and Caltrans District 7 Headquarters. Regarded as one of the leading technical authorities in our profession, Barry currently serves as a council member of the Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council and as a member of the CSU Seismic Review Board, where he is the designated seismic peer reviewer for five CSU campuses.
Within the firm, Barry is responsible for quality control and assurance for all JAMA projects, reviewing drawings at each major milestone and identifying innovative and cost-effective strategies to incorporate into the structural design. He also mentors younger staff, teaching skills related to structural efficiency, detailing for constructability, and complex structural analysis.
Outside of the office, Barry is an accomplished chef and baker. He approaches cooking with the same precision and ingenuity he applies to engineering. His creations have long been a favorite among staff, particularly his cookies, made from vintage family recipes.
