JAMA was proud to serve as the SE for the Frost Center for Research and Innovation at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
Centrally located on the Cal Poly campus, the 102,000 square foot facility is packed with “Learn by Doing” opportunities, with multidisciplinary undergraduate research space and cutting-edge facilities, including state-of-the-art teaching labs, dedicated research labs, collaboration spaces, and video studios.
The facility is a reinforced concrete structure utilizing flat slabs that cantilever up to 10 feet, with longer cantilevers up to 15 feet achieved using tapered concrete beams. The flat plate construction accommodated mechanical ductwork while mitigating acoustic and vibration transmission between floors, and allows for adaptability and future flexibility.
