Industry Involvement

JAMA supports and promotes the advancement of the structural engineering profession through our involvement in numerous industry organizations.

JAMA has been a long-time supporter of SEAOSC, the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California. From engagement in the annual Leadership Symposiums, board membership, and committee involvement, JAMA is proud to support this cornerstone of the Structural Engineering community in California.

Within SEAOSC, the Women in Structural Engineering (WiSE) committee facilitates mentorship and leadership opportunities for women in the engineering industry. Several of our women engineers serve on various subcommittees. JAMA has also hosted a number of WiSE events in our Los Angeles office, providing opportunities for our staff to network with other women leaders in our industry.

JAMA is committed and prepared to assist local governments in safety evaluations of their built environment in the aftermath of a disaster. All professionally licensed JAMA engineers have been certified as Safety Assessment Program (SAP) Evaluators under Cal OES, Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

JAMA’s leadership in the architecture, engineering, construction industry is reflected by our representation on the boards of numerous industry organizations including the Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council, Asian American Architects and Engineers (AAa/e) Foundation, USC Architectural Guild and CSU Seismic Review Board.

Additionally, JAMA regularly serves the California community through charitable endeavors and is dedicated to helping students, young engineers, and those in need.

One of JAMA’s longest-standing relationships has been with the ACE Mentor Program of America, an organization focused on increasing awareness of high school students to career opportunities in architecture, construction and engineering. The firm is teamed with John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, providing mentoring and scholarship opportunities for students in a manner reflective of the diverse school population. In 2014, JAMA was honored with ACE Mentor’s Engineering Firm of the Year award.

JAMA has also been a regular participant in CANstruction – a national charity of the design and construction industry, where architects, engineers, and contractors team up to create structures made entirely of cans. The cans, along with additional proceeds from the event are donated to local food banks.

JAMA established its regular participation in the Salvation Army’s “Angel Tree” program since 2011. The initiative provides new clothes or toys to “Angels” in need – children who, for financial or other reasons, may not receive presents at the holidays. JAMA employees have supported as many as 30 children each season.
