John M. Nissen, SE

Principal

John Nissen is a veteran structural engineer who brings creative expertise and wit to everything he does. Early in his career John worked with JAMA but took a break for several decades living in the Pacific Northwest, where he founded and grew his own firm, JMN Consulting Engineers. John returned to JAMA in 2020, and now manages a range of projects for long-term clients, including international telecommunications companies and information suppliers, among others. He serves as a mentor to all staff in the office, sharing project approaches, advice and feedback on technical, career and development questions.

A people-person by nature, John relishes meeting new collaborators and clients and working to keep the relationships long term. He maintains strong connections across the Western US and particularly enjoys spending time in Washington state. He is forever working on his golf game alongside his other hobby of watching old westerns.
