This rehabilitation of Glendale’s Central Library on Brand Boulevard reimagined a community landmark by embracing the structure’s original Brutalist Design but adapting it to meet the changing nature of libraries.
The 90,000 square foot library, opened in 1973, received a voluntary seismic retrofit that improved load paths and seismic force resisting systems. The rehabilitation also improved urban design linkages between the library and Glendale’s surrounding downtown area by reorienting the Library’s main entry while improving the interior’s overall function and flexibility.
