Originally constructed in 1966, the 2-story Rampart Area Police Station was renovated to provide a physical and symbolic transformation of this community police station from a dark, scandal-laden concrete box to an open, transparent model of community policing.
The goal of the renovation was to provide a fresh, accessible image and reassuring presence to the community, creating a new chapter in the story of the “Old Rampart” building. Tenant improvements for this essential, 24/7 facility include spaces for five field platoons, staff offices, a workout facility, equipment storage, kennels, parking facilities, auxiliary armory, and display areas. New public spaces include community-amenity outdoor space and the placement of public art in a truly public place along the perimeter security walls.
