The 2,265-seat Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles was completed. JAMA’s work with Frank Gehry on the structural design, with its unified composition of metal clad sail-like planes over an underground lower-level parking structure, continued with additional civic, education, and residential projects in the future. The Disney Hall project was one of the earliest applications of CATIA software in an architectural setting, with JAMA staff relocated in Gehry’s office to learn the software. This also catapulted JAMA’s expertise with building information modeling and technology applications, which continues to the present day.
